How to Make Mixed Media Bookmarks

Great Tips for Beginners

Over the weekend, I have been working on bookmarks for an upcoming bookmark swap on Instagram and I have made three-part videos on this endeavor. Each video shows different mixed media techniques you can use in your crafting. They are simple to follow and they give you a beginner look at creating Mixed Media.

Mixed Media is visual art that uses a mix of materials (usually non-visual) and combine them to create a finished piece. The general rule is using two or more materials such as collage, paint, inks, fabrics, buttons, metal, thread and the list goes on… You can really get creative with this style of medium. This process (besides painting) is my absolute favorite way of creating and I use this method in various crafting endeavors.

Part I: I show how to create a painted background using different color paints and a Dollar Tree cutting mat.

Part II: I show how to use a collage of fabric scraps as a background.

Part III: I show how to use a collage fodder background. In part one, I explain a little bit about how I start the collage fodder process.

The LP Bookmark Swap Update

On May 8th, I announced a new crafty swap group I have started over at Instagram. This group swaps bookmarks in the shape of tags and the standard shape. Each bookmark is handmade by crafters and artist from the United States. The first swap is on June 15th and we’ve started the group off with a bang! Twenty members have joined thus far and their enthusiasm is encouraging.

We are quickly approaching the first swap date! If you’re participating, be sure to have the bookmarks with three forever stamps turned in by the 15th. For those who would love to join, and you can’t get your bookmarks turned in on time, do not be dismayed. Our next swap is in September and we would love to have you join.

We are swapping 4 bookmarks a piece. You can not only use them for books, but for your journals and notebooks! If you are interested in participating, DM me for more information. The hashtag for our swap group: #StephslpBookmarkswap or you can email me at: layeredpages@yahoo.com

P.S. I’m opening limited spots for this swap to Canadians and others who have shown interest from other countries. More info about that coming soon.

Steph’s LP Bookmark Swap Announcement!

I’m creating a unique bookmark swap this summer! Wouldn’t it be wonderful to receive bookmarks from crafters and artists? These swaps will be held three times a year and the first one is on June 15th. As you know, bookmarks are used for holding the place of your page in books, but did you know that they are great for your journals and notebooks as well? The design ideas are endless and what fun it is to create them. I’ve been making them for years and have collected many and I treasure each and every one of them. Recently, I’ve been making these bookmarks in the shape of tag, sizes of 2”x 5” and they have held up great! Another fun idea for them is to write your favorite book quotes on the back of them.

This swap group is for USA Residents only. If you are interested in participating, DM me on Instagram for more information. The Instagram hashtag for this swap: #StephsLPBookmarkswa Instagram handle: @stephsartjourney

I would love to have you join!

A Lovely Weekend To You

I’ve had a busy week and lots on my mind for new posts series starting soon at Layered Pages! As many of you know I posted about two giveaways and they are still open. Please don’t miss your chance to enter them. They are fabulous!

Gradie BirdieI’ve stared reading a southern story-Gradle Bird by J.C. Sassen- and I have fully embraced with the soulful sentiment in this story that reaches the core of a person’s heart. I am journaling passages that are making a profound impact on my journey reading this story. A story that touches you so…

So far, I am highly recommended this book. Hopefully I will be able to publish a review of the story soon. This will be part of my southern author’s series that I mentioned in a previous post. I was hoping to get a review up this week but yet again, it did not happen. I know my followers expect to see my book reviews and I need to be better at posting them. There is just not enough time in the day to get everything done!

Paper for book marksI’m also working on another project. I’ve got my paper selected for the 36 handmade bookmarks I’m making for a wonderful group of ladies. Can’t wait to see how they turn out! Bookmarks are so much fun to make. Normally I use scarp paper to make them but these I want to go all out. The ladies I am sending them to read Historical Fiction and I know these patterns are perfect for the genre.

I hope you all have a beautiful weekend and thank you for visiting me today! See you on Monday.
