I’m thrilled to be sharing this week’s final 2021 ICAD’s with you. The abbreviation ICAD means, “Index Card A Day.” This challenge was created a few years ago by artist Tammy, and her challenge has really grown over the years. We are getting close to the home stretch of this challenge and I must say I’ve enjoyed it a great deal! I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to store the cards and I usually go with an acid free photo box to store my little creations. Right now, they are sitting in a ceramic basket on my bookshelf. I might keep them there for a while. I love walking by and stopping to take a look at them.

ICAD 2021 Challenge Part IV

Day 20

I’m excited to be sharing with you all this week’s ICAD’s. The abbreviation ICAD means, “Index Card A Day.” This challenge was created a few years ago by artist Tammy and her challenge has really grown over the years. Below, is her IG account where you can find out more about her and her art.

I have to admit that after the first week, I stopped following the prompts. Which is entirely optional for the artists to decide which way they go with this challenge. I tend to go my own path when it comes to my craft. This week I really mixed it up. I received some new craft items in the mail in the last three days, so I wanted to play with them! I will share which items are new in the descriptions below.  

Day 20: On this day was Father’s Day and my birthday. I was born on Father’s Day many years ago and it is rare when that day is celebrated on the same day. When it happens, my father and I celebrate both together with the family. It’s not too often when I make orange my dominant color. I think it turned out lovely! Plus, it gave me a reason to use this scrap of my painted paper for this project. I’ve been hoarding the paper, you see.

Day 21: Monday’s card represents a start of a new week. The possibilities were endless to make it a positive one and what a lovely week it has been. On this card I used scrap book pages, ink and ephemera from my older stash.

Day 22: The Leftovers: The reason for the title is that I took paper towel that I’ve used to clean up paint and over time, it turned to this color. Isn’t it beautiful?! This card was an absolute blast to make! I also used Maple Samara from outdoors, needle and thread.

Day 23: I wanted to create something a bit grungy on this day and this card is made from that feeling. I quite like how it turned out. I used my order supplies with this piece and the others above.

Day 24: This card is vintage theme and I used my below products for the top layer. The bottom layer is is pages I used to paint black circles. Next week, I will be sharing a product review on everything I ordered. I loved how this turned out!

Day 24

Day 25: Abstract Tree: Okay, this one was a blast to make! I love trees and I’ve been drawing them since I was a kid. These days, I tend to create them in an abstraction medium. Some would say this could be a flower, but remember that in the spring time, many trees bloom flowers. For example: Cherry, Dogwood, Pink Mimosa, American Fringe and other sorts of trees.

Day 26: For this card, I used up the last of my homemade red, yellow theme painted paper. I thought it a great background for these pressed flowers and leaves. They’re from my new craft haul. I absolutely love how this turned out!

ICAD 2021 Challenge Part III

I’ve really enjoyed this week’s ICAD and seeing everyone’s cards. There are so many talented artists out there!

Day 13: Life is a journey into the unknown-I love the thoughts of taking a long road trip and deciding on an unknown destination. Exploring the possibilities and discovering something new.

Day 14: Live Intentionally- I love working with collage. Gluing down the papers is so relaxing.

Day 15: Peace- I placed the floral upside down because I liked the shape of the ephemera much better this way. You can’t really tell unless you look closely and of course because I mentioned it.

Day 16: Neighborhood – I had a ton of scraps on my craft table so I decided to make another collage of houses. They are so much fun to make!

Day 17: Hope- Painted background. More vibrant colors pulling together to make the foreground stand out. Love when everything works together in harmony.

Day 18: Weekend Vibes -I love how all the vibrant colors pulled together.

Day 19: Florals In Tea Cups – I used an envelope window for this piece. I love how it turned out. It reminds me of the Victorian era a bit.

ICAD 2021 Challenge Part I

“It looks like I’m listening to you, but I’m really thinking about the paper I just ordered.” -Funny Quote

I am participating in the 61 Day ICAD 2021 challenge hosted by Tammy @gypsy999 Instagram! Last year, I did a hundred-day challenge independently and this year I was just going to do it on my own again but was encouraged by others to partake in Tammy’s challenge.

This past Tuesday started the annual ICAD Challenge and I usually don’t follow prompts on demand but so far, I have gone with it and have really enjoyed this week’s challenges.

Day One: The prompt for this day was, Contraption. I was delighted with this challenge. I had thought about doing clock gears or something along those lines, but knew that many others would probably do the same. I had this sticker transfer I have been wanting to use and thought the bicycle perfect for this challenge. When bicycles first came about, I can imagine people wondering all sorts of things about the contraption and that it will never take hold or wasn’t ladylike for women to ride them. Ha! Sure enough…

Day Two: The prompt for this day was, Snapdragon. The flower is symbolic in a big way and I wrote a poem about it. Alas, I didn’t not share it on Instagram but perhaps I will share it on here at some point. I did have a fellow artist read it, and he really liked it.

I’m an abstract painter so the snapdragons were a bit of a challenge for me to create on a small scale. Though I must say, at least the colors are pretty and the houses give a whimsical feel to the piece. I did doodle paint the sky and doodling is a theme in this challenge. I got a lot of great response with this card.

Day Three: The prompt for this day was, Lyrics.I chose Fall for You – Secondhand Serenade. I was going to go with Fade into You by Mazzy Star when I first read the icad prompt. Her song has such soulful meaning, heart- wrenching depth, and pure raw emotion.

However, after much thought, I decided to go with Fall for You. This song came to my mind while I was painting yesterday afternoon, for various reasons, and it really struck a chord with me for today’s prompt.

Afterthought: I was a teenager when Mazzy’s song came out in the 90s. I’ve always felt her song poetic, her voice other-worldly and everything I mentioned above. Will have to create a special piece in homage of her.

Supplies: Index Card (4″ × 6″)/paper collage/Words/Ink/Stamps

Day Four: The prompt for this day was, Snow Globe.

Blizzard

I have never made a snow globe before and I could have easily just printed out a pattern and paint over it. But I wanted to be authentic and create mine own from scratch. I knew I needed to do a lot of shading on the globe, so it looks like glass and to make it look like you’re seeing through it. I drew a circle and the base separately, then started my painting process. The background of the card is painted grey and I used a stamp for a wallpaper look. I’m thrilled with the outcome and this project has boost my confidence in my craft.

Supplies: Index Card/Snow Globe Sketch on paper/Acrylic Paint/Ink/Stamp

Day Five: The prompt for this day is, Verdigris. I LOVE this challenge. I’ve created using this method and colors before and enjoyed re-visiting the process. Verdigris meaning, “A bright bluish-green encrustation or patina formed on copper or brass by atmospheric oxidation, consisting of basic copper carbonate.”

Supplies: Index Card/Tissue Paper/PVA/
Acrylic Paint -Yellow Ochre, Raw Umber Dark, Teal (Bleu Lagon), and Satin Teal/Distress Ink around the edges

I’M AN ICADIAN

“Crafting fills my life. And my closets. And my drawers. And every empty tote bag in the house.”

I am participating in the 61 days index card art challenge hosted by Tammy @gypsy999 Instagram! Last year, I did a hundred-day challenge independently and this year I was just going to do it on my own again but was encouraged by others to partake in Tammy’s challenge.

I must confess, creating art on index cards gives me so much inspiration and joy. I have learned a lot about myself in how I push the boundaries of creating art, I might not have done so before.

If you would like to participate, be sure to follow Tammy on Instagram to get the scoop of the challenge and understanding. Everyone is friendly and supportive, so do not hessite to ask questions.

The challenge starts today but don’t feel you have to jump right in on the first day.

The best place to buy index cards is at the Dollar Tree, if you live in the State and have one in your town.
