The abbreviation ICAD means, “Index Card A Day.” This challenge was created a few years ago by artist Tammy, and her challenge has really grown over the years. It is absolutely wonderful to see the collection of cards I’ve made thus far. I have them sitting pretty on my bookshelf in a ceramic basket. Where is the picture? I’m going to share it on the last post of this challenge. I can’t wait! Like all the previous weeks, I love this week’s cards!

I have to say that this week’s cards really have touched my heart and I enjoyed creating them. I used a lot of my coffee dyed paper for the collage background and even did a little hand stitching. I take my photos outdoors and some of them may appear a little darker, due to cloudy weather we are having. You can get a better look of the cards at my Instagram.

Day 27: We’ve been seeing a lot more rabbits than usual this summer in our neighborhood. I thought this card fitting for the premise. It has been wonderful to see them and glad the next-door neighbor cat has been neglecting is hunting!
Day 28: I love adding quotes and sayings to cards. This would go great in a journal or sent in the mail to a love one or friend. I believe the favorite part of this card is the lace I added.

Day 29: Everyone Has Secrets- When creating this card, I didn’t have anything in mind as the layers developed. Isn’t it interesting were art can take you sometimes?
Day 30: The quote on the card comes from the novel Possession by A.S. Byatt. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve read the story and watched the adaption based on the novel. Making this card tempts me to read the story again.

Day 31: Housekeeping- I love writing sayings, quotes and poems. I thought I would write a quirky saying about housekeeping.
Day 32: The card below reminds me of one of my favorite childhood stories The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Imagine finding a walled in garden and the only way in that garden is by using a key. The story is charming, mysterious and elements of childhood imagination, adventure and emotions.

Day 33: I love the outdoors and I still think on the fond moments of playing outdoors as a child. Those days, we could venture far from home, as long as we were together and home in time for dinner. The adventures we had! The bird and flowers on the card below reminds me of those days. Many great memories to cherish.

I’ve really enjoyed this week’s ICAD and seeing everyone’s cards. There are so many talented artists out there!
Day 13: Life is a journey into the unknown-I love the thoughts of taking a long road trip and deciding on an unknown destination. Exploring the possibilities and discovering something new.

Day 14: Live Intentionally- I love working with collage. Gluing down the papers is so relaxing.

Day 15: Peace- I placed the floral upside down because I liked the shape of the ephemera much better this way. You can’t really tell unless you look closely and of course because I mentioned it.

Day 16: Neighborhood – I had a ton of scraps on my craft table so I decided to make another collage of houses. They are so much fun to make!

Day 17: Hope- Painted background. More vibrant colors pulling together to make the foreground stand out. Love when everything works together in harmony.

Day 18: Weekend Vibes -I love how all the vibrant colors pulled together.

Day 19: Florals In Tea Cups – I used an envelope window for this piece. I love how it turned out. It reminds me of the Victorian era a bit.

On days 6,7,8, I wasn’t feeling the prompts and it was showing. So, I decided to go off prompt. I feel more myself when creating this way. No rules, and no pressure. Just letting go and being in the moment and allowing to go where the movement of the paint brush takes me. Creating art intuitively is my jam.
Day 6 – Canoe: This one really frustrated me. I was having a day…That said, I do like the placement.
Day 7 – Garden Shed/One Staple Collage: I do love the challenge of the one staple collage, so I was quite please with the shed I created using that technique. My only beef was the twist marks I used in the landscape and the landscape itself wasn’t my best. As a whole, I felt lazy with this one and wasn’t putting my heart into it.
Day 8- Umbrella: Despite not feeling this prompt on the day I creating the Umbrella. It’s not a total wash. I do like the abstractness of it and the placement of the Umbrella.
Day 9 – Off Prompt/Mountain Air: So happy with this piece. Definitely more my style.
Day 10 – Off Prompt/Sea Bathing:It’s hot and humid in Georgia. One could use a little sea bathing.This was a fun piece to create. I love the different hues of blues and how they work together.

Day 11 – Off Prompt/Butterflies: I have a thing for butterflies and I knew I wanted to create an abstract background as well. Yep, feeling good vibes with this piece.
Day 12 – Off Prompt/Abstract: I had a lot of thoughts going through my mind with this piece. Such as, being authentic, you matter and you have a voice. Cancel culture needs to go. Loving the colors and textures with this abstract.

I am participating in the 61 days index card art challenge hosted by Tammy @gypsy999 Instagram! Last year, I did a hundred-day challenge independently and this year I was just going to do it on my own again but was encouraged by others to partake in Tammy’s challenge.
I must confess, creating art on index cards gives me so much inspiration and joy. I have learned a lot about myself in how I push the boundaries of creating art, I might not have done so before.
If you would like to participate, be sure to follow Tammy on Instagram to get the scoop of the challenge and understanding. Everyone is friendly and supportive, so do not hessite to ask questions.
The challenge starts today but don’t feel you have to jump right in on the first day.
The best place to buy index cards is at the Dollar Tree, if you live in the State and have one in your town.

The Index Card Art Challenge 2020 is going by so fast! Today, I’m sharing part 14 of this challenge which entails days 88-95. This challenge is just about completed!
Most of the materials I am using for these cards are my painted collage papers I make on a regular basis. I’m also using magazine clippings and images from old books for collage. As well as Tim Holtz and other artists ephemera you can purchase online or at craft stores. Many of these cards will be used for my 2021 Journals. Others I want to either frame for make another art piece out of them using the collage method.
The images with three cards (Day 92) was a special series I painted inspired on a morning stroll from the previous day. I had taken lots of photos of landscapes, beautiful shrubbery and wanted to use colors I saw depicting our walk. The colors are so vibrant! Really pleased how they turned out and they have given me inspiration for other art pieces. They would look fantastic in frames!
