A Weekend of Crafting

Starting this past Friday, we celebrated my father’s birthday. I made him a miniature diorama and he loved it! He is going to display it on his desk. Saturday and Sunday and Sunday I worked on several projects and a couple art challenges.

A little fabric, paper and mesh dyeing was a lot fun! A few of them will go through more color washes soon! They will be used for various mixed media projects-including collage, fabric journal making and hand sewing. Once I get the look I want, I’ll iron these pieces. I’m going to share my method of making these soon at The Ugly Stitch Club Facebook Group.

A little paper crafting for the 100 Day Art Challenge and I really enjoyed creating this piece by adding wonky stitches and mesh from a kitchen liner you can buy at The Dollar Tree.

I’m completely hand stitching the fabric collage when with the many colors of fabric and stitches shown and I’m still working on it. I should have been finished with it by now, but I’m having such a lovely time slow stitching through the different shapes, colors and patterns of the fabric. Do you ever have those WIP you want to spend more time with and not let go quite yet? Like a kindred spirit you can talk with for ages and time seems to stand still and you say, ” Just a little longer…” Yeah, that’s this piece

Sunday afternoon, I spent time on the back porch, I decided to work on a stitch project while enjoying the weather and listening to the birds sing their song. It is becoming that time of year when you can enjoy the outdoors.

The stitch snippet challenge at The Ugly Stitch Club is in full swing and it is going great! Everyone’s snippets are lovely and such creativity from the group! We are having a blast! Here are a few pictures of the snippets I’ve been working on.

Fun craft project for all ages!

Mixed media collage is a form of visual arts, in which you take more than one element and create an image or background. Paper is one of the more popular forms of making collage. Such as using magazine clippings, scrapbook paper, photos, wrapping paper and so on…

It becomes mixed media when you add elements such as paint, ink, markers, ribbons, metal, cardboard, wood, and stamps. The ideas are endless, really. You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money. You can use items from around your home. I’ve even seen people use sticks and leaves they find out doors. I have to admit, I’ve done that as well. In short, keep your cost down to little or no cost at all. That is the beauty of being creative.

These collages were fun and easy to make. A perfect project for beginners or even advance crafters’. I love the quirky mismatched window panes on the house above. I tend to do that with projects like these. For my base I used cardboard from a cereal box. Don’t throw away those boxes! You can use them for all sorts of crafts. Once I cut it to the size I wanted, I inked the sides. Then grabbed a pile of scrap paper I have on hand and inked them up really good and glued them down the way I wanted. Tip: Arrange the paper on the base to see how it looks before gluing them down.  Once the paper is glued down, add ribbon and use a marker(s) to make the door and windows. I also used the markers to highlight the sides of the roof and house. That part is optional but it really helps the image to stand out.

Tip: If you don’t have crafting ink, you can use coffee to dye your papers or even watercolor paint.

These collage can be framed, or used in a journal, or a card to send to a friend or love one, or propped up against something-like a bookshelf. Have fun and enjoy the process!

2020 Index Card Challenge: Part 15

Index Card Art

I have neglected to post my completed Index Card Art Challenge until now. I was supposed to share the final outcome a few weeks back. I must explain why I haven’t sooner. When your writing muse awakens from a deep slumber, one must bear down the hatches before the moment passes. What a wonderful writing experience it has been and, I believe it will continue for quite sometime. Forming new writing habits has really helped.

I thought of a couple ways to share my journey in this challenge and one of them was to take a picture of all the cards together and talk about each one. That task seemed a bit daunting to me. Not that I don’t enjoy talking about creativity, mind you. We’re talking about a hundred cards and I believe the previous posts and the art shown speaks for itself.

Today I’m sharing the final (days 96-100) cards. I will link the previous posts down below for you to take a look into this worth-while pursuit. This challenge has taught me a lot about my creative side and has built my confidence further with creating smaller pieces of art and blending brighter colors I had not beforehand.

My next art feature will be about creating art on Rolodex Cards! Now that has been a challenge since the cards are a lot smaller than the index cards.

The Index Card Art Challenge 2020: Part 9

The Index Card Art Challenge 2020 is still going strong! Today I’m sharing part 9 of this challenge which entails day 54-60. Most of the materials I am using for these cards are my painted collage papers I make on a regular basis. I’m also using magazine clippings and images from old books for collage. As well as Tim Holtz and other artists ephemera you can purchase online or at craft stores.  

There are several challenge days you can choose for this challenge and I chose 100 days. Check out Part 8 post in this challenge HERE, where I include more details of this art adventure.

A Labor of love

Mixed Media Rural Landscape Collage on Wood

On July 8, I posted about a couple of new art projects I was starting. Today I’m sharing one of the completed pieces and a lighthouse 4×6 canvas board. I used my left-over painted collage papers and text paper from my Rural Landscape Collage on Wood for the Lighthouse scene. I really enjoy collage art and really excited about exploring the different scenes I can create. I’m also challenging myself more on my sketches and drawings for these art projects. In another post coming soon, I will be discussing my process and include tips.
