This past Saturday I shared my first post in the Index Card Art Challenge 2020. I have to say that this effort is a pleasure to be exploring. The challenge is really giving me the opportunity to be more creative and to expand on my techniques and ideas.
The whole weekend was a time of creating, reflecting and just being in the present moment of my art and self. Sunday evening as I looked backed at what I had been working on, I noticed a color theme happening.
I made three new journal pages in one of my art journals, created and doodled with my painted collage papers, made a jute art and worked on the index card challenge. My desk remained a big mess the entire time!
I was asked what I listen to when I’m crafting. Sometimes I’m listening to a movie or book. Mostly I listen to sounds like rain or the sound of ocean. I discovered this ambiance yesterday and it is my new favorite! Try it out. Here is the link.

A Weekend of Art
The last couple of days I’ve been working on a new landscape. This landscape painting is part of a much larger piece. I’m loving the movement of colors and I have to say that creating skies are becoming my favorite art form. Can’t wait to share more! -Stephanie Hopkins

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend! Welcome to Layered Pages and thank you for visiting. Layered Pages is were I talk about books, art, history and everything I love.
A few weeks ago, was my birthday and I wasn’t expecting any gifts. Just a lovely dinner with my family. To my surprise they came bearing presents and gift cards! I was able to get a few things on my art supply wish-list, and I saw some cute stickers at the Dollar Tree. I also spotted some great stencils at Tuesday Morning. I ordered the Tim Holtz products on-line. The Stencils from Tuesday Morning were 20% off the yellow sticker price. I believe it came to eleven dollars and some change. My beautiful daughter gifted me the paint set which I absolutely love.
A couple weeks later and the moment I had everything on my desk, I started crafting immediately! Today I’m sharing a few of the art pieces I made. Which one is your favorite?

Last night I started a new painting for one of my Smash Books and it occurred to me that I use a lot of blues and greens. Why am I so engaged to these colors, I ask myself? How do I feel when painting with the many shades of these colors?
Blues and greens remind me of the ocean and sky which I’m extremely in awe of both. These colors are calming to me and give me a sense of deep thought and gives depth and meaning in many areas of our lives. These colors surround us and has many powers. I often think about the many colors our maker in heaven has given us and why.
Lately I have been using the many shades of blues and greens in my projects more often, sometimes without realizing it until I take a step back from my art to observe. Most of my art is this way. That is probably why I create smash books and master boards often. You’re simply in the moment. Yet your expressing your inner thoughts without putting much thought into the process. It’s an extraordinary feeling, I think. -Stephanie

I’ve always loved creating with cloth. There is something soothing about the feel of fabrics, slowly guiding needle through cloth, and layering pieces to create new textures and designs. Working with paper, drawing and painting has the same effect. Creating is my safe space. A time of rest, reflection and recovery-if you will. The act slows your mind down and brings you to present in this fast paced world we live in.
